I hired Key Depot to rekey locks and reprogram the keypad entry at one of my residential rental properties during a tenant turnover. I paid $205.68 for the service. The very next morning, my prepaid property inspection could not be completed because the keypad entry no longer worked after Key Depot serviced it. This resulted in a missed inspection appointment fee of $45.00, in addition to the lost $250.00 inspection scheduling and delays in getting my property back on the rental market.

Kai from Key Depot told me the keypad was “faulty,” even though it had worked before they serviced it. I requested a quote for replacement. Instead of sending a quote for approval, Key Depot scheduled an appointment at my property without my authorization. Multiple emails, texts, and voicemails requesting the quote and clarification were ignored.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. the morning of the scheduled appointment, I finally received a call. I explained that I had never received or approved a quote. After initially insisting it had been sent, Kai admitted he had just emailed it. The quote was approximately $300 to replace a keypad that retails for around $35, and I declined the work.

I then hired another locksmith, who successfully reprogrammed the supposedly “broken” keypad without replacing it. He advised that the original work had not been properly completed.

This situation caused unnecessary costs, delays, frustration, missed appointments, and lost time during a critical rental turnover. I am requesting a full refund of the $205.68 paid to Key Depot, reimbursement for the $45 missed inspection fee caused by their failed service, and accountability for the improper work and lack of communication
