locks on my condo.

This time I lost my car keys somewhere and needed a new set. Everyone I talked to was great and professional. They had Chris come out after the storm to cut new keys and program them to my car. Chris was really great and helpful. Really made my bad day turn around.

I couldn’t recommend them enough.

I visited Wolfe Safe & Lock to have a replacement key made after my original broke in half. I had both pieces, which meant it was entirely possible to duplicate. However, instead of doing the job, the locksmith lazily claimed they didn’t have the “key mold” for it. That excuse makes no sense—any real locksmith (or even someone with basic experience in key cutting) knows that as long as the blank fits the lock, the grooves can be duplicated onto it, even if the replacement key is slightly longer. I’ve personally done this when I worked in home improvement stores with far more basic machines than what a full-service locksmith should have.

On top of that, he made an unnecessary remark about the key being “cheap” and “made in China”—as if that had anything to do with the ability to cut a new key. Key manufacturing origin has zero relevance to whether a new key can be made. A new key could have been cut from a blank made anywhere, including the U.S., as long as it fit the lock. That comment felt completely unnecessary and borderline xenophobic.

So, that leaves only three possible explanations: laziness, prejudice, or an attempt to upsell me. Instead of taking 5 minutes to make a new key for a few bucks, they tried to push me into having them cut off the entire lock—something way more expensive and completely unnecessary. This is classic bad business practice: exploit the customer instead of helping them.

This is exactly why so many “old-school” service businesses are dying—because they prioritize short-term profits over long-term customer trust. If you want a locksmith who actually does their job instead of making excuses, go somewhere else.

UPDATE: After my frustrating experience at Wolfe Safe & Lock, I drove 30 minutes to another locksmith in Amsterdam, NY who had ZERO issues making a new key from my broken fragments. Not only did they successfully duplicate the key, but they also provided a stronger, American-made key blank—completely disproving the excuse that my original key was “too cheap” or “made in China” to work with.

The difference in service was night and day. This locksmith didn’t try to upsell me, didn’t feed me false information, and charged me only $4 and some change for the service your business refused to provide. I even offered to pay double out of appreciation, and they refused because they actually value their customers.

Your refusal to help wasn’t due to a lack of ability—it was either laziness, an attempt to upsell, or something worse. Thanks to an honest locksmith, I avoided paying hundreds of dollars for unnecessary lock-cutting services. Do better.

Jake from Alpine Lock replaced an old lock and key with a keypad locking system on our front entry door. This was a complicated installation and Jake handled it with ease. Jake arrived on time and installed the upgrade with skill and professionalism. And it was $300 less than the original quote which was awesome! He also recommended High Sierra Custom Door to fix a weather stripping issue on the front door which was a high priority for us. Thank you Jake we love the new keypad on our front door it’s a real game changer!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Andy’s Lock & Key was fantastic! I needed 4 keys made for the compactor at work. Home Depot couldn’t help me and told me Andy’s was the best in town, and that they were! They made sure to match the key and make a tester and told me to check it and ensure it was a match on our compactor before making 3 more. Then when I came back they were super fast making the other 3. Their service is top notch friendly and they will forever be my locksmith

I also overheard them quote a customer for a new FOB for their vehicle and their price was very reasonable. They also have a huge variety of keys for sale.

Thanks again!
