Our daughter‘s apartment door was locked and closed while her keys were inside. Fortunately, she was spending the night at our house so we made arrangements to meet a locksmith there the next day at 3 o’clock. After waiting for 45 minutes past 3:00 and getting the runaround from this particular locksmith, we called Rich’s Keys and Locks. Fortunately, Wes was visiting family in the area and came right over. He looked at the door, worked his magic and opened it up. We were so grateful and I wanted to pay him extra money for his quick service but he declined and said he doesn’t take advantage of people’s dire situations. In early September, St. Isidore Parish had some issues with their aged wood doors at both Sacred Heart Church in Middleboro, MA and St. Rose of Lima Church in Rochester, MA. Billy was able to locate, purchase, and install a matching outer handle that had sheared off one of the doors in Middleboro. He was also able to accompany me down to Rochester to tighten the lock assemblies that were spinning within those 2 inch thick doors all in the same day. The good: was prompt and fixed the problem. The deadbolt was broken and needed a lot of drilling. He then installed the new lock set I bought on Amazon.
The charge was $160 for this work @ $80/hr.
The bad: the non-emergency and scheduled call out charge was $130 to cover the 60 km from his shop to my home. He then charged me another $80 for his trip back to his shop when the job was done telling me that it was a ‘working’ hour. I also paid $25 for broken bits.
So his labour & tax costs to replace the broken set with a set I purchased elsewhere was a little more than $450.
It seemed excessive and peculiar. Never experienced charges like that, but maybe that’s how they do things here. I am new to the province.
