I had 10 copies of a key made for a padlock. The whole system worked very smoothly and I was impressed with the way it was able to automatically select the key blanks and cut the keys. Unfortunately, the keys were just slightly off in length, requiring a special touch to make them work. I had to push them into the lock, and then apply a slight pull before turning the key. I wonder if somehow the original key wasn't inserted fully into the machine before I started it. The keys do work, but I was disappointed in having to use a special touch.

One Star penalty for confusion, described below. 5* service. I had a machine (at Lowes) make a few copies of a key a couple months ago. They worked smoothly in the lock. The system asked if I wanted to create an account and digitally store the key, and I did that, in an app called 'Key Hero'. Yesterday, my wife and I were in a different Lowes, and she asked me to make two more copies of that key. A-Ha!, I thought. I've got the app. Let's test it. (I had the physical key, just in case). So I punched it up on the app, and the app told me to "Enter the 7-digit PIN displayed on the machine's screen". The machine was just sitting there, not displaying a code. Also, the machine was called "Minute Key' and my app was 'Key Hero'. Hmm. The machine was sitting next to the Customer Service desk, but the employee wasn't familiar with using the machine via an app. Then I noticed a tiny 'key hero' logo on the screen of the machine, so I pushed a few buttons until I got to something like "Digital Copy" (something like that, but probably not exactly that). The code came up, and everything proceeded smoothly from there. The machine ground the keys in a couple of minutes, and I was on my way. It wasn't the worst case of difficult instructions with missing steps I've ever encountered, but it certainly could be better. The Key Hero app probably works with other brands of automated key cutters. I didn't remember the brand of machine that originally copied the key, and I think I expected it to be called "Key Hero". The Key Hero logo on the machine was tiny, and maybe only on the screen (and maybe not every screen). And Step One of the app instructed me to 'find a Key Hero cutting machine', not a 'Minute Key' machine. Step Two of the app told me to enter the code from the machine's display, leading me to believe that the machine would just display the code. Nothing told me to push some buttons to reveal that code. I had to guess, and fortunately, I did. I don't deal with tons of keys, but the machine was convenient, and now that I (and you) know the secret, it'll be easy next time.
