  I had copies of keys for my kids Sonata and Elantra made, they were delivered to the house in a couple days and they worked great. I had purchased a used 2004 CRV that only came with one key. I didn't want the hassle or cost of going to the dealership to get a key made and programmed to the car. My local hardware store had the KeyMe machine, so I put my key in and it indicated it could copy the key. Within a couple days I had another key delivered to the house. Initially the key only worked in the ignition, but I noticed that the tip of the key extended further than the original by the smallest amount. I ran it over sandpaper for a bit to get the tip of the key flush, wiped off any grit with a rag, and now it works in all the doors as well. Pleased that I now have two working keys

  Machine boasts "any key," can be cut, duplicated, etc. When I read that, I'm pretty impressed, because they've made it seem like they've got every blank right there in the machine and you can get it and you're good to go. No such luck. They take an image of the key type and cut for any key that isn't a common Schlage, Brinks, TrueBolt or Stanley (there might be others, but I'm painting with sort of broad strokes here), they say they can have it shipped to you within 4 days for $3 a key with shipping included. Fair enough; I say OK, give my credit card information, and away I go. I really wanted a copy TODAY, and I consider why I didn't just go to the smaller neighborhood hardware store that would've been able to copy my key for about the same cost, but I'd have it in my hands today. Anyway, I didn't do that, because I'm time-committed now, and I've already placed this order. Long story short, before the key copies came, I found the duplicates I already had and misplaced, making the order extraneous, but whatever. I guess it's better to have extra copies than just one key. And to that point, I suppose there was the possibility that the smaller hardware store wouldn't have had my key blank in stock, either. Not wild about the 3-day wait, they should disclose that up front, not at checkout, but the keys worked, and at least there's that.

  When I arrived at the Kiosk in Menard's, there was a customer ahead of me already in process of waiting for her keys. I like the idea of a kiosk for duplicating keys and the other features that they offer. I would just suggest a couple of improvements on the key duplication side of things. The key cutting process is too slow. Add to that, they up sell you with a great offer to buy more keys which then means more time waiting and waiting for customers ahead of you. Also, I would like their keys to be a little more heavy duty. The current keys are very light which evokes a sense of weakness and a possible propensity to break off in the lock. Other than that, the keys fit and operated my locks just fine.
