I was looking for a skilled, reputable locksmith to install new smart locks on our home. After hearing great things about Joseph A. from Bob Fraser Locksmiths, I decided to request a quote. Joseph got back to me right away, understood my needs, explained what he would do, how much it would cost, etc. We scheduled a date, and Joseph showed up right on time. He went above and beyond with the installation, somehow managing to complete it without any of the previous hardware marks and door paint outlines visible. He came wearing a mask and socially distanced when we spoke. He did an excellent job for a price I felt was fair. He is the only locksmith I will use going forward!

Fast and reliable, really appreciated their help. I was looking to copy a car key, and they originally said Saturday because they had to get the key, but called me back the same day asking me to come in the next day. They were super patient and helpful, and even called the dealership for me to figure out a key code. They also made three copies of my house keys super quickly. The service was fast, reliable, and completely transparent: the prices I paid were the same ones stated on the phone when I called to inquire. Thank you for all your help, Carmen!!!

Went out of his way to help replace a key that was missing!  Very kind. Fair pricing.
His main competitor in Montclair wouldn’t even attempt to replace key- just said he would have to drill lock & would disable item.

Really creepy. Really deceitful.
It started out well. The saleslady helped me find the custom hardware that I needed for an old door. She offered to have the install tech come to my house to verify that it was the right hardware because it was high priced hardware. The tech knew his stuff, and found the right lockset to fit.
I almost fainted when he wrote up the price. Insanely expensive. About four times the price of the best hardware at Home Depot. The tech said he'd waive the $250 install fee (still insanely expensive). I wanted to support a local business, so I paid the invoice that he wrote up.
When the tech showed up with the hardware (a week late), he did a good job installing it. Then, he gives me another invoice for $250 plus tax for a total of $271!!! I reminded him that he waived the install fee. He tells me he waived the $250 fee for SHOWING UP to LOOK at the door! I couldn't believe what he was saying. I paid the money just to get him to leave.
Here's the creepy part: The guy wouldn't leave. He just stood there staring at me after I paid. I told him five times in very clear terms that he needed to leave my house immediately. He just stood there staring at me like a serial killer. I'm 6'4" and 200 lbs. Its really unnerving to have someone half your size just stand in your living room staring at you after they've extorted $271 from you. I had to throw his folder out the door and threaten to call the police to get him to leave. And this is a guy who has a key to my house!!!
I strongly caution anyone in the neighborhood from doing business with Bob Fraser Locksmiths. Don't let them into your home.
In response to your slander about me assaulting your technician: Spend more time providing accurate and truthful proposals and you won't need to spend so much time cleaning up your online reputation.

Mr Gallagher,  We explained to you that you have a Morties Lock and it is very expesive!  I clearly explained it to you, helped you pick out the hardware, sent my tech to measure the door for free, then you  picked the most expensive lock of all the Mortise locks and we Installed it for a flat rate,  as far as my tech goes he is the nicest guy and one of the best to Install that lock after he was there Installing for 2 hours you claimed that we did not tell you about the Install fee which is clearly not true!  then you started yelling at the guy about the install fee and had the nerve to kick him!! We did an excellent job on your house and have nothing to apoligize for we where very clear on how much everything cost and you can not buy that lock at home depot,  We are a professional locksmith we treated you with alot of respect, didn't call the police & press charges on you for kicking him & FYI we never keep anyones keys we don't stay in businesss for this long doing anything deceitful!

I had a door knob that needed to be fixed as it had fallen off the door. When I called to schedule the appointment, I asked what the minimum would be to have it fixed and was told there was a $34 service charge.  When the locksmith showed up, he was able to fix it in under 5 minutes and didn't even have to use new parts.  When he came back with the bill, it was $110!!!!!  I asked him why this was as I was told on the phone it was $34.  He said that was the service charge, and he was charging me $69.  He told me the minimum they can charge is $34 + $46 (half hour labor) or $80.  Then why not say that on the phone.

I told him that they should tell you that on the phone and he told me he is a sub-contractor and doesn't represent them.  I explained that to me, he does represent them as the customer, but he disagreed.

After I paid and he left, I decided to drive over to the establishment to talk to them face to face.  As I was there explaining that is deceitful to not let the customer know that it will be a min of $80 and letting them know that the locksmith told me he didn't work for them or represent them, guess who walks out?  The locksmith who doesn't represent them or work for them.  What a sham!!!

They charged me the $80 min instead of the $110, but even after I told them to just be honest and tell the customer it is a minimum of $80 if the problem gets fixed, they didn't seem to care.

I will not be using them again and neither should you!
