  A fantastic resource for our community. A hardware store that provides support and guidance is a refreshing holdover from the pre-big-box era when service mattered. Alger Hardware & Rental has a decent selection to go with their superior service. And you can even get an ice cream cake on the way out!

  These guys (and gals) are the bee's knees. They've always given me great personalized service over the year we've lived in the area, but a recent experience caused me to write this endorsement. I pulled up into a close-by spot in the parking lot to unload my snowblower for repair. Before I could get all the bungee cords loose from the hatch on my SUV, an employee came out to ask if I needed help unloading the (heavy) snowblower from my vehicle. Now, THAT is what I call terrific service. I will continue to choose this neighborhood hardware store over the nearby big box stores because of this personalized service. Rock on, Alger Hardware! You folks have "it"!

  I recently just moved to Alger Heights. My fiance and I wanted to sand and stain our floors. Me, thinking i'm the handiest man in all of Grand Rapids, thought it would be an easy task. I watched a ton of youtube videos and every-time i watched a video of some "veteran" handyman i would think "they are over reacting." Then realizing i was being lazy the whole time. Well the "veteran" handyman and staff of AHHS have the same views. i would end up having to to redo my work with what the veterans of youtube and AHHS told me what to do the whole time. Their selection may not have what Home Depot or Lowe's have, but they have all the rentals/material to get the job done right the first time. Not to mention you will not have to risk getting rear ended on 28th st, lol.
